Heuglin's Gull Larus heuglini
November 1986 Tamagawa-river Kawasaki Kanagawa Japan

This individual apparently looks identical to Lesser black-backed gull, except its late molt-timing and slight differences in wing-pattern. The head streaking was thin and limited through winter.

Right to left; Slaty-backed Gull, Vega Gull, and the Heuglin's gull.

Same individual as above
December 2nd 1987

This individual can apparently look quite dark like intermedius in some photos, but I guess its mantle is similar to graellssii.

Note the distinctly dark mantle, yellow legs, large red bill-spot, and light-built general structure. Another dark-backed bird showing a broad tertial crescent on the left is a Slaty-backed Gull.
