Larus glaucoides
kumlieni March 27th 2009 Choshi Chiba Japan 3 1st winter Kumlien's Iceland Gulls were seen with 5 Thayer's Gulls in one day. This individual that was first found on February 1st is called "Nigou" (-means the second bird in this winter). The same bird on February 3rd. Update, Apr. 2013 : Presumed the same individual in 2012 (4th winter) seemed better to regard as a intergrade/hybrid with Thayer's Gull. Unfortunately nobody has found this individual in 2013 (5th winter). The same bird with a Slaty-backed Gull. This is called "Sangou" (the third bird in this winter). Update, Apr. 2013: Presumed the same individual in 2012 (4th winter) seemed better to regard as a intergrade/hybrid with Thayer's Gull. The "Sangou" behind a Glaucous-winged Gull, with Vega Gulls and Kamchatka Gulls. ![]() After watching two individuals above, this individual suddenly came into the harbor. I briefly thought this was 'Ichigou' (- the first bird in this winter) that was observed by some other gullers in January. But when I checked photographs later, I realized it was obviously different bird ! So this should be "Yongou" ( the fourth bird in this winter). Fortunately I found the "Yongou" again on the seawall located 2km from the site above. It looked very small among Vega and Slaty-backed Gulls. |
