Kumlien's Iceland Gull  Larus glauoides kumlieni　 Feb.3rd 2009 Choshi Chiba Japan This 1st winter Kumlien's Iceland Gull was found on February 1st, at about 600m north from here . I (Michiaki) came across the same individual on February 3rd  with 4 Thayer's gulls in the same small flock!  Update, Apr. 2013  Presumed the same individual in 2012 (4th winter) seemed better to regard as a intergrade/hybrid with Thayer's Gull.   Unfortunately nobody has found this individual in 2013 (5th winter).   Note the thin, short legs compared with the Vega Gull. After bathing, it showed a more "textbook" overall appearance of Iceland Gull which includes rounded head, small bill, short legs and long primaries.   The Kumlien's Iceland Gull with a Thayer's Gull and 2 Vega Gulls in the foreground.
