1st winter
Vega Gull
Larus vegae
March 7th 2005 Choshi Chiba Japan

The preening bird in the foreground is a 4th winter Thayer's Gull.

I feel this has some Glaucous Gull-like flavor. Is this a pure Vega Gull?

This resembles the above one.

The tertials seem to be paler than in normal birds. Does this possibly suggest hybrid? The right bird showing its spread tail is a Slaty-backed Gull.

I am wondering if this is a Vega Gull. Although the outer tail feathers seem to have a large amount of white, I feel this bird can look similar to some (western) smithsonianus overall.
