Vega Gull Larus vegae
January 13th 2004 Choshi Chiba Japan
This is also a typical individual, but might be in the relatively larger/darker side.
Note the dark tail-band that is narrower than smithsonianus, broader than mongolicus.
A relatively longer-billed individual.
A female-type, relatively small individual.
A dark Vega Gull? or atypical smithsonianus? or something else?
This individual looks rather dark, and resembles smithsonianus in many respects. But in the field, its overall tendency that shows sharp streakings/markings (especially around the neck) and sparse markings in the undertail coverts looked a little unnatural to be a smithsonianus.
The tail band was presumedly narrower than most smithsonianus.
